US DOL Unemployment Claims report 7/9/2020: 58,912 new jobless claims filed in TN and VA last week
Nearly 59,000 new unemployment claims were filed last week in Tennessee and Virginia.
The US Department of Labor’s weekly unemployment claims report shows 25,843 new jobless claims were filed for the week ending July 4th in Tennessee.
The state’s department of labor says new claims increased by nearly 4,000 from the last reporting week.
New jobless claims filed in Northeast TN last week were counted at 1,220, while 14,289 unemployment claims were continued. The breakdown by county can be found below:
Carter County- 108 new claims (1,166 continued claims)
Greene County- 224 new claims (2,414 continued claims)
Hawkins County- 145 new claims (1,548 continued claims)
Johnson County- 47 new claims (340 continued claims)
Sullivan County- 394 new claims (4,476 continued claims)
Unicoi County- 24 new claims (444 continued claims)
Washington County- 278 new claims (3,901 continued claims)
Total new and continued claims- 1,220 new claims (14,289 continued claims)
33,069 new jobless claims were filed in Virginia, 1,114 more than the week prior.
