Virginia Governor Signs Historic Gun Legislation
Virginia Governor Ralph Northam, surrounded by Legislators, advocates, and victims’ families ceremonially signs sweeping gun safety legislation on Thurday. The new law requires background checks on all gun sales, establishes an Extreme Risk Protective Order, reinstates Virginia’s successful one handgun a month policy, mandates reporting lost and stolen firearms and prevents children from accessing firearms. The Governors’ signature coincides with the one year anniversary of the special session that Northam called immediately following the tragic May 2019 mass shooting in Virginia Beach.
