VSP: 9 people killed in traffic crashes over July 4th holiday, including Buchanan County man
A Buchanan County, VA man was among nine people that died in traffic crashes over the 4th of July holiday in the Commonwealth.
Virginia State Police say nine fatal crashes happened in the state between July 2-5 during its Operation CARE initiative, intended to reduce crashes, fatalities, and injuries from impaired driving, speeding, and failure to wear a seatbelt. Three of the nine fatal accidents, including the Russell County, VA crash that killed Marshall Keen of Buchanan County, involved motorcycles.
State Police also responded to 444 crashes statewide, cited 1,537 motorists for speeding, and arrested 44 people driving under the influence.
