UPDATE: NTSB releases final report on fatal 2017 Virginia State Police copter crash

Lack of training was one of the factors cited in a fatal Virginia State Police helicopter crash that killed two officers during the Charlottesville riots in 2017.

The National Transportation Safety Board said in its final report on the incident that pilot Trooper Berke Bates lost control of the craft after it lost lift and said Bates did not have enough training to pull the copter out of the situation.

The aircraft which also had Lt. Jay Cullen on board was providing a video feed for law enforcement during the Unite the Right rally and was then flying to support a motorcade for Gov. Terry McAuliffe when it went down 10 minutes after takeoff.
