Unicoi County mask mandate now in effect

One of six localities in Northeast TN has ordered a mask mandate amid a continued surge of COVID-19 cases.

Unicoi County Mayor Garland “Bubba” Evely issued an executive order that took effect at midnight Friday morning, requiring all residents over the age of 12 to wear a face mask while in public places, especially where social distancing is difficult or impossible to achieve.

Those exempt from the order include children under 12, those with underlying health conditions, and in places of worship. The order is scheduled to run until August 3rd.
