JC Schools: Over 2,400 apply for remote learning application
Johnson City Schools say they received over 2,400 remote learning applications.
Earlier this week, the school system offered families the option to participate in traditional in-person learning or participate in online learning during the 2020-21 academic year. Of the nearly 8,000 students in the system, around 30% chose the online route for the fall semester.
In a letter to families, the district is in the midst of working with principals and teachers on remote learning assignments. More information on things such as pick-up schedules for materials and devices, is set to be released by each school the week of August 3.
The start of the academic year was delayed to August 10th during the BOE meeting on Monday. The start of the academic year could possibly begin online as Washington County continues to gain a large number of new COVID-19 cases each day. Active cases in the county were at 396 following the Tennessee Department of Health’s daily release of new COVID data.
The school system concluded the letter saying it remains in ongoing discussion with regional health department officials regarding reopening guidance as cases continue to increase, and will provide any updates to changes in operations as they become available.
