65 counties including all Northeast TN counties quarantined over beetle that kills certain tree

Two additional counties in Tennessee have been added to a quarantine list after a beetle that kills emerald ash trees was found there earlier this month.

Hickman and Dickson counties join 63 other counties including all counties in Northeast Tennessee under state and federal quarantine for the emerald ash borer, which bars the movement of firewood, ash nursery stock, ash timber, and other material that can spread the beetle.

Signs of the beetle include a thin canopy or yellow foliage on the trees, small holes in the bark of the tree, or shoots growing from roots or a tree trunk.

Citizens are asked to report any symptomatic ash trees to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture. The full news release can be found here.
