HCSO: Two arrested in Monday police chase, suspect accused of hitting corporal’s vehicle in stolen car
A man and woman alleged to be in possession of a stolen vehicle in Hawkins County are facing several charges as a result of a police chase on Monday.
A report from the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy identified a stolen white Saturn out of Hamblen County traveling on Highway 66, and attempted to pull the vehicle over.
The deputy said the vehicle sped up, traveling through multiple stop signs including one near Rogersville City School, then lost control into a residence yard. The Saturn continued on through the yard and back onto Colonial Rd., and once it reached Guntown Rd., the car lost control a second time, slamming into the side of a ditch and spinning.
It again continued on to McKinley Chapel Rd., where the report said an object was thrown out near the McKinley Chapel Church, later identified as capsules not sealed with a white powdery substance.
The car traveled onto more roads before the chase’s conclusion on Highway 113. There, police say the car appeared to be running out of gas when suspect Jason Angell allegedly swerved at a corporal as he was trying to get out of his car, striking his vehicle and nearly pinning the corporal.
Angell got out and fled from the car on foot, later being captured. Angell, along with passenger Amanda Wallen were taken to the Hawkins County Jail. A search of the vehicle after the pursuit found Angell to have a suspended license along with needles.
Among charges Angell is facing includes aggravated assault on an officer, reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving on a suspended license. Wallen is charged with accessory of possession of stolen vehicle and possession of schedule II.
