Paramount Center for the Arts calling for passage of bi-partisan independent venue relief bill
A Bristol, TN live performance venue is calling for the passage of a bipartisan bill that would provide financial grants to independent venues who’s businesses have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
U.S Senators Amy Klobuchar, (D-MN), and John Cornyn, (R-TX), have introduced a bill in Congress titled “Save Our Stages Act” which if passed, would provide six months of financial support to independent live music venues through SBA grants.
If passed, two proposals include directing the Small Business Administration to make grants available to eligible venues equal to the lesser of either 45% of operation costs from calendar year 2019 or $12 million, and permit recipients to use grants to pay for costs incurred during the pandemic.
The Paramount Center for the Arts is one of many independent venues nationwide who had to shutter operations earlier this year due to the pandemic, and in a Facebook post, is asking patrons to fill out a form to be sent to elected officials that would show support for the bill.
