Tennessee Education Association repeats plea for online learning to start school year
The Tennessee Education Association is referencing a Harvard School of Public Health report in their second request to the state to halt any plans to resume in-person instruction in public schools due to the pandemic.
The Harvard study discourages any students in the classroom if the daily case count in a locality is at 25 or above. Recent data from the Department of Health show 55 of Tennessee’s 95 counties are above that infection threshold.
TEA President Beth Brown said all schools should start the year with online instruction and noted that Tennessee is a state where the governor or education commissioner cannot mandate school openings or penalize a system for delay.
