UPDATE: Charges against Rural Retreat man accused of trying to kill officer bound over to grand jury
A Wythe County man wounded in an officer-involved shooting in November had his case bound over to a grand jury.
Court records show the judge referred the case of William Cody Grimes who is charged with one count of attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer.
Investigators said Grimes, 29, was intoxicated when he stole and crashed a car in Rural Retreat. A county deputy arrived and the two struggled on the ground after the suspect tried to take his revolver. The officer then retrieved a rifle from his patrol car and shot Grimes.
The grand jury is scheduled to convene in October.
