UPDATE: Carter County Board of Education approves new schedule, stop all extra-curricular activities including football
Governor Bill Lee and the TSSAA signed-off on practices and games for full-contact sports last month. Kickoff for the 2020 season is August 21. That could be different for schools in Carter County.
“I’m convinced (the TSSAA) decision was made because of money and for no other reason,” said Board of Education Chairman Jerry Stout.
The board voted unanimously Thursday to stop all extra-curricular activities including football for two weeks then reevaluate the status. Chairman Jerry Stout.
“You know, this is our county, these are our kids, and these are our citizens,” Stout added. “I hate this. I don’t like anything about any of this we’re talking about. But of the same token, I don’t want it on my conscious that somebody’s died because of a decision or a bad decision that I made.”
Those changes also come with an approved new school schedule with opening day set for Aug. 17 with a staggered schedule and only 25 percent capacity allowed along with online learning. Carter County will then switch to a total remote learning schedule beginning Aug. 24.
