Appalachian State, Watauga County, and Boone police working together to find COVID rule breakers
A report from Appalachian State University says their security department is working with police agencies in Boone and Watauga County to support pandemic safety measures.
The school’s statement says the three groups are sharing information to help monitor, respond to, and address off-campus gatherings that violate North Carolina COVID-19 guidelines. That includes a formal jurisdiction agreement between the university and the town of Boone.
A large population of App State students live off-campus, according to chief of police Andy Stephenson, and the town recognizes the impact the school has on the community.
ASU Chancellor Shari Evans noted that a majority of students are adhering to virus precautions but every violation is being taken seriously.
