Southwest Virginia firefighter dies while on call early Wednesday

An emergency agency in Southwest Virginia is mourning the loss of a veteran first responder.

A report from the Adwolfe Volunteer Fire Department said firefighter and EMT Charles C. Woods died at an area hospital early Wednesday. Woods was part of the crew that responded to a fire just after 2 am in the 330 block of North Overlook Drive in Marion.

Woods was found unresponsive inside a tanker truck and fellow members attempted CPR until other paramedics arrived. He had served with the Adwolfe department for 33 years.
