One dead following crash on Route 23 in Clinchport

One person is dead following a two-vehicle crash in Scott County.

A report issued Thursday by the Virginia State Police says a driver in an SUV pulled into the path of another vehicle driven by Connie M. Hensley at the intersection of Route 23 and 65 in Clinchport.

Hensley, 58, was taken to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead. Her 15-year-old passenger was also transported for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV, identified as Richard Spivey, 69, of Kingsport, had minor injuries and was charged with failure to yield the right-of-way.
