Murder of Kingsport native and wife goes to trial in Knox County

A trial has begun in Knox County, Tennessee that surrounds the murder of a native of Kingsport.

A jury was seated Monday in the proceedings of Joel Guy, Jr., a former LSU medical student who is accused of killing his parents Joel Guy, Sr., who grew up in Northeast Tennessee and attended Lynn View High School, and wife Lisa.

Police said Guy, Jr. killed then dismembered his parents while visiting them on Thanksgiving weekend in 2016 and then tried to dissolve their remains with chemicals. Family members have testified that the couple was preparing to stop supporting their son financially.
