Mad Greek owners ordered to issue back pay checks to 65 workers for tips violations
A federal investigation has revealed a Tri-Cities restaurant chain violated record-keeping and minimum wage laws resulting in nearly $200,000 in tips being kept illegally.
Cypriana, Inc., the parent company of the Mad Greek International Cafe, only gave the 65 workers named in the investigation a portion of the tips they earned while on the job, keeping the remainder to supplement their salary and the paychecks of others along with business expenses, US labor officials wrote.
The offenses occurred at the cafe’s locations in Johnson City and Kingsport, according to the report.
Those workers will be receiving their back pay as part of the order from the US Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division.
