NEW: Suspect in Sullivan County murder captured in SW Virginia
The man police said shot and killed a Memphis, Tennessee resident Wednesday night in Sullivan County has been apprehended.
Roger “Rabbit” Cornelius Roberts was taken into custody without incident just after 3 p.m. Thursday in Russell County, Virginia in the town of Castlewood, according to information from the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office.
Roberts, 25, of Church Hill, Tennessee, was identified as the suspect and charged with second-degree murder after a shooting was reported on Haynes Drive in Kingsport just before 9:30 p.m. Wednesday.
Roberts had left the scene and Kyree Marcus Holmes was found with a gunshot wound to the chest.
Holmes, 24, of Memphis later died of his injuries at an area hospital.
Roberts will remain in the Southwest Virginia Regional Jail until an extradition hearing, according to SCSO spokesperson Capt. Andy Seabolt.
