Bristol company lays claim to first medical marijuana order in Virginia

One of Virginia’s first cannabis dispensaries will officially open in Bristol this weekend.

Dharma Pharmaceuticals will be accepting customers by appointment only. Their facility is currently located at the former Bristol Mall property but company officials announced in August that they will relocate to a new center on Watauga Road in Abingdon once their lease is up.

The company was one of five operations approved for medical cannabis production and retail sale by the Virginia Board of Pharmacy in 2018.

Dharma commemorated the first fill of medical marijuana in the state earlier this week. The patient receiving that supply was a 20-year-old Richmond resident who suffers from severe epilepsy.
