The monkey in Church Hill: Investigator gets tales of peculiar primate on Nikki Circle
There are dozens of exotic animals that cannot be owned in Tennessee. Monkeys are not on that list so it is not that unusual to hear of a sighting in Church Hill.
This primate, however, has had at least two documented run-ins with neighbors. An offense report from the Hawkins County Sheriff’s Office last week said a resident on Nikki Circle told a deputy that a monkey jumped on her and tried to bite her one night in her driveway.
A neighbor across the street also told the officer of a recent encounter where she tried to fend off the monkey with a stick. The animal was able to wrestle the object away from the lady, jumped on her car, then ran away.
Soon after the monkey maneuvers, the owner identified as Connie Waters could be heard scolding her pet.
The Hawkins County officer was unable to interview the monkey’s caretaker. The report says the officer was looking into potential charges for the monkey running at large following a consultation with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
