US DOL Unemployment Claims Report 10/29: 22,342 first time claims filed last week in TN and VA

Over 22,000 first time unemployment claims were filed last week in TN and VA.

The latest report from the US Dept. of Labor says for the week ending Oct. 24, 7,770 first time jobless claims were filed in TN, while VA reported 14,572 first time jobless claims. Tennessee experienced a 2,600 plus claim decrease from the prior reporting week, while Virginia gained 3,200 plus claims from the last reporting week. Locally, Northeast TN had 471 first time jobless claims while 3,892 claims were continued. Below is the state and local breakdown of new and continued unemployment claims:
