VSP: Six-year old, 50-year old Kingsport residents killed in Northern VA crash on I-81 Wednesday
Two people have died, including a six-year old Kingport child while three others suffered serious injuries following a crash on Interstate 81 Wednesday afternoon.
Virginia State Police reports a 2013 Kia Sorrento was traveling south on I-81 around mile marker 287 in Shenandoah County, when it ran off the left side of the road and overturned several times. The two killed in the wreck included the six year old boy from Kingsport who was in a booster seat, but not buckled, causing him to be ejected from the car and he died on the scene.
A 50-year old woman from Kingsport that was also unbuckled and a passenger, suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at an area hospital. The driver and two other passengers were transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
The identities of all are being withheld at this time and the crash remains under investigation.
