New Appalachian League schedule features first All-Star Game, winner-take-all championship game
The revamped Appalachian League announced its 2021 schedule on Wednesday. The 54-game slate begins on June 3 with all 10 teams taking the field.
Teams will have three two-game series per week as part of the schedule which also includes the league’s inaugural All-Star Game on July 27. The host city for that game will be announced early next year as well as the new names and mascots for each city.
A winner-take-all championship game for the league is set for Aug. 9.
Only the name will be retained as the Appalachian League switches from a rookie league for major league franchises to a developmental system for USA Baseball that will feature top college freshmen and sophomore players.
