VSP: South Carolina FedEx driver transported to hospital following crash on I-81 Wednesday night

A FedEx driver from South Carolina was taken to the hospital for serious injuries following a fiery late night tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 81 in Washington County, VA.

Virginia State Police report a FedEx tractor-trailer traveling south rear-ended another tractor-trailer around mile marker 6 last night around 7:15, causing the FedEx vehicle that was pulling two trailers, to overturn and catch fire. The FedEx driver was flown to Bristol Regional Medical Center for serious, but non-life threatening injuries, while the other tractor-trailer driver was not injured.

The interstate was shut down for several hours for cleanup and charges are pending in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
