Smyth County Schools moving to virtual learning Dec. 7
Smyth County, VA Schools has joined the growing list of area school systems making the switch to completely remote learning due to increases of COVID-19.
Superintendent Dr. Dennis Carter said in a letter to families that the switch back to remote learning is in part because of the Mt. Rogers Health District’s announcement that they were suspending contact tracing, something that Carter says the school system has heavily relied upon.
The letter also did not specify when the school system will return to a hybrid learning format, but Carter stated they will intend to move back to hybrid learning, “once the capacity to contact trace is reestablished.”
