Northam Announces 25 Million Dollars In State Budget For Historic Justice Initiatives
Saying its an investment that will help Virginia tell the true story of the Commonwealth’s past and continue building an inclusive future, Governor Ralph Northam announces Friday a portion of next years proposed budget will include 25 million dollars to transform historical sites and advance historic justice initiatives in Virginia. Nearly eleven million dollars will support efforts to transform Monument Avenue, which is the historic section of Richmond that was built around Confederate statues. Seven Confederate statues were removed in 2020 and the State owned Robert E. Lee statue is expected to be removed in 2021.
