VHSL: Athletes competing, practicing winter, spring sports will wear a mask
The Virginia High School League has implemented a mask mandate during practices and competitions for all athletes until further notice.
VHSL Executive Director Billy Haun said he hopes COVID conditions improve for the spring sports schedule but until infection rates and other virus-related issues are contained, masks will be required for students.
UPDATE
As you may have heard, the VHSL will require student-athletes to wear face masks during competitions and practices. This action was made as a result of an increase in COVID-19 cases statewide and new mandates from the Governor.

The league conferred with its Sports Medicine Advisory Committee before adopting the rule recommended by the CDC and the American Academy of Pediatrics.
The mandate excludes wrestling, gymnastics, and cheerleading. Basketball games in Virginia are scheduled to begin Dec. 21.
