NEW: Dale Phipps named Interim Kingsport Police Chief as city starts search for permanent chief

The City of Kingsport has named Dale Phipps as interim police chief.

A news release from the city on Monday named the 33 year law enforcement veteran the temporary head of the department as Kingsport searches for a permanent chief with a formal hiring process now underway.

Former Kingsport Police Chief David Quillin retired late last year after 35 years of service.
