Contura Energy changing name to Alpha Metallurgical Resources on Feb. 1

Bristol, TN metallurgical coal company Contura Energy will go by a different name beginning in February.

Contura will become Alpha Metallurgical Resources on Feb. 1, and officials say the rebranding more accurately reflects the company’s focus on production of metallurgical coal, which is critical for steel production.

Contura is bringing the Alpha name back, as Alpha Natural Resources was in operation from 2002, through bankruptcy in 2015, to its 2018 acquisition by Contura.
