CCSO: Son who tried to intervene in argument allegedly shot by father

An Elizabethton father is facing an attempted murder charge after police say he shot his son during a family argument.
A report from the Carter County Sheriff’s Office says they were called to a home on Old Lacy Hollow Road just after midnight on Monday, where they found a victim laying in the floor suffering from a gunshot wound to the stomach. Deputies say they spoke with suspect Willie Maupin Jr., who told them he and his wife were intoxicated and in an argument when his son came home and tried to intervene.
Maupin Jr. later told police the argument with his son was only verbal, but he, “wasn’t going to wait until his son hit him,” resulting in Maupin Jr. allegedly retrieving a revolver and shooting him. The son was taken to the Johnson City Medical Center for treatment of injuries, and Maupin Jr is set to appear in court on the charge Wednesday.
