UPDATE: Chase become first Virginia General Assembly member since 1987 to be censured
Chesterfield Senator Amanda Chase became the first lawmaker since 1987 in the Virginia General Assembly to be censured following a resolution vote that included members of her own party voting against her.
The measure was brought following Chase’s attendance at a rally at the US Capitol this month that turned into a violent insurgence that Chase had defended as the work of patriots.
Chase argued that a double standard exists in the Senate because of other members arrested last year during marches in Richmond when statues were torn down and vandalized.
Senate Minority Leader and fellow GOP member Tommy Norment said Chase should focus on her emotional and mental well being after days of rambling speeches.
Chase promised legal retaliation against Senate members in her remarks.
