Bristol baseball franchise unveils their nickname for revamped Appy League
A moniker that’s a staple of the twin cities of Bristol now is the official nickname of the revamped Bristol Appalachian League Baseball team.
Officials were on hand Monday morning to unveil the nickname “Bristol Stateliners.” The return of the Stateliners nickname is a tribute to the ballclub who held the same name a century ago. Bristol’s baseball franchise went through a number of organizational changes while apart of the Minor League Baseball system, most recently with the Pirates organization.
Bristol and the other local Appy League teams are no longer affiliated with Major League Baseball franchises, but the league will continue as a Wooden Bat league which will feature some of the top college baseball prospects in the country. A number of other franchises including Greeneville and Kingsport are set to unveil their nicknames.
Bristol is scheduled to kick off the season against Johnson City on Opening Day of the league June 3rd.
