Mt. Rogers Health District asking Galax residents to be on the lookout for gray fox with rabies
The Mount Rogers Health District is issuing a notice to Galax residents to be aware of a fox that has tested positive for rabies.
Officials say a gray fox with rabies attacked an animal control officer on Jan. 27 in the area of West Stuart Drive. The district says the fox is in an advanced disease state and had fought other animals including a skunk, which could cause other animals to become rabid over the next few months.
The district asks that any resident with pets or themselves that have come into contact with the gray fox in the area should call the Galax City Health Department at 276-236-6127 or Galax Police Department.
