Virginia Lawmakers Push Back Start Date Of Marijuana Legalization to 2024
As lawmakers in Virginia continue to push legalized marijuana legislation through the General Assembly, they are also trying to determine when and how the state will roll back criminal penalties as lawmakers attempt to legalize the market for pot in the Commonwealth. But lawmakers are taking a different approach to the legalization of pot by pushing the start date of retail sales to 2024, a full year later than Northam is proposing. That would be enough time to establish an independent agency to oversee the pot business. While Governor Northam is proposing to monitor legalized marijuana with the assistance of the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority.
