Virginia Senate committee approves budget amendment for improvements to Breaks Interstate Park
A push towards million dollar improvements to Breaks Interstate Park in Southwest Virginia is advancing through the state legislature.
40th District Sen. Todd Pillion filed for a $1.4 million budget amendment in honor of the late Sen. Ben Chafin, who called Chafin a tireless advocate for the 4,000 acre park that sits in two states.
Earlier this week, the VA Senate Finance Committee approved the budget amendment which will now advance to the full Senate budget proposal.
The funding would be used to modernize the park and is part of a five-year strategic plan to make Breaks Interstate Park more sustainable while boosting overnight stays.
