Former UVA-Wise head football coach Bill Ramseyer dead at 84
The man who led the UVA-Wise Cavaliers onto the football field for the first time has died.
The school announced the passing of Bill Ramseyer, 84, who was hired in the early 1990s as the program’s first head coach after spending 19 years at Wilmington College in Ohio.
He retired following the 2001 season following a career in Wise County that included two playoff appearances and 62 regular-season wins.
Another report issued Thursday said alumni and school leaders were creating a scholarship fund to honor Ramseyer and his wife Mary. Details can be found here.
