Tenant, Homeowner Bill Heads To Northam’s Desk
The Virginia Senate passes a measure that allows certain tenants facing eviction to pay all payments, penalties and court fees and remain in their homes. Senate leaders voted to move the bill ahead by a 25 to 14 bipartisan vote on Thursday. Under current law, tenants can use the so called right of redemption only once a year, a stipulation has contributed to renters losing housing even when they have covered all they owed. Under the new bill, landlords with five or more units would be required to offer payment plans to renters for fall Semester.
