UPDATE: Witness requirements waived for Virginia Senate absentee ballots in District 38 race
The Virginia Department of Elections says a witness requirement for an absentee ballot for next month’s District 38 Senate race is being waived following a court order.
This means voters are not required to have a witness present or have the witness sign the ballot. The agency also noted that ballots already cast will not be rejected if they are missing the signature.
Governor Ralph Northam called for the March 23rd special election last month to fill the Senate seat left vacant by the death of Lebanon’s Ben Chafin. The race includes Republican Travis Hackworth of Richlands and Democrat Laurie Buchwald of Radford.
