VSP warning Virginians about phone scammer claiming to be state trooper using “276” area code
Virginia State Police are warning about a phone scam involving the 276 area code with someone claiming to be a trooper on the call.
The Virginia State Police Wytheville Division reported that they received some 50 calls recently from Northern Virginia and other states about a call from a scammer posing as a VSP trooper. The scammer claims they have a warrant for the arrest of the person receiving the call and demands payment to avoid arrest.
VSP says they never call to notify individuals about an arrest warrant and never requests payment over the phone for any service.
