Virginia Sen. Kaine, Warner make two recommendations to fill US Attorney vacancy in the Western District of VA

Virginia US Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner have each announced their recommendations to the fill the US Attorney vacancy in the Western District of Virginia that serves Southwest Virginia.

In a letter to President Joe Biden, Kaine and Warner have suggested Assistant US Attorney in the Western District of VA Christopher Kavanaugh as well as Virginia Chief Deputy Attorney General Erin Ashwell for the position.

The White House will nominate one of the two to be considered by the Senate Judiciary Committee then the entire Senate for full confirmation. Daniel Bubar is serving as Acting US Attorney for the Western District of VA after former US Attorney Thomas Cullen resigned to join the federal bench as a District Court judge last September.
