TBI reports decreases in school crime and domestic violence cases in 2020
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation reported Thursday decreases in both crimes at state schools and in the number of domestic violence investigations in 2020.
The annual findings showed COVID-19 had a definite impact on school crime with the overall number of reported offenses decreasing 59 percent with simple assault reported the most at 35 percent.
The scope of domestic violence in Tennessee in 2020 was measured with a slight 2.6 percent decrease although 90 people, the majority of those women, were killed by their identified partner.
More than 69,000 domestic cases were logged by investigators during the period with females accounting for 71 percent of the victims.
