Tennessee Senate passes permitless carry bill, legislation still being considered in House committee

Legislation seeking to allow permitless carry of firearms in Tennessee has passed the state senate.

The measure would allow qualified residents 21 and older to carry a firearm either open or concealed without a permit and was part of Gov. Bill Lee’s legislative initiatives he introduced last month, defining this bill as constitutional carry. Also eligible would include anyone 18 and older in the military, including either in active service, retired, or honorably discharged.

The senate passed the measure 23-9 on Thursday that included an amendment to prohibit anyone convicted of certain offenses like stalking or multiple DUIs in a 10 year period. The House version of the legislation is still being considered in committee.
