Washington County, VA Sheriff’s Office issues warning to residents about fake cash scam involving “movie or prop currency”
The Washington County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office is warning the public about a money scam involving movie or prop currency being passed off as legitimate cash.
The Sheriff’s Office says this money is being used in place during online sale meet ups for electronics like video game consoles and cell phones. The bills have phrases printed on them like “In Props We Trust” and “Motion Picture Use Only”, and scammers often wrap or crumple the bills to obscure the phrases from clear view.

To avoid being given fake cash, the Sheriff’s Office recommends meeting in well-lit locations and designated safe exchange zones. Call law enforcement if you come across the counterfeit currency.
