Lee County man to serve over 12 years in prison for assaulting three police officers

A Lee County, VA man will spend the next twelve and a half years in prison after assaulting multiple police officers during two separate arrest attempts.

Scott Clem was sentenced to the term Monday, and according to Lee County Commonwealth’s Attorney H. Fuller Cridlin, Clem assaulted one officer during a traffic stop on a suspended license as he was determined to be a habitual offender. Prosecutors say he was informed he was being placed under arrested when Clem assaulted the officer, and after assaulting the officer, Clem fled into nearby woods.

Cridlin says Clem fought two other officers in a separate incident when they attempted to serve him with an arrest warrant. Body camera footage captured the assault, and Clem also fled from police on foot before he was captured. A search of his home revealed a shotgun that he was not authorized to possess since he is a convicted felon.

Following his release, Clem will be on supervised probation for at least ten years.
