Virginia Tech board votes for first tuition rate hike in two years for 2021-22
Virginia Tech’s Board of Visitors has voted to raise tuition rates for the first time since 2018, resulting in a $300 increase for in-state students.
The 2.9 percent hike in the cost for learning will also impact out-of-state attendees with the one-year price for schooling in Blacksburg rising to more than $30,000.
Board Finance and Resource Management chair Ed Baine said the price hike strikes a balance for the value of a Virginia Tech degree and providing services of a world-class university.
The Tech board announced they are adding an additional $2.7 million in additional resources to help low- and middle-income families with tuition help. More than $35 million will be available for financial assistance.
