TBI Releases Data On Law Enforcement Related Deaths For 2020
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released figures Thursday that reveal a total of 66 cases of law enforcement related deaths occurred across Tennessee in 2020. The report is divided into three sections, Use of Deadly Force, Arrest Related Non Forcible Deaths and Deaths in Custody. There were 28 cases of Deadly Use of Force in 2020, that’s more than a 64 percent increase from the previous years 17 cases reported. The TBI report showed one death met the Arrest Related Non Forcible Deaths and a total of 37 Deaths in Custody were reported. The TBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division collects crime data through the Tennessee Incident Based Reporting System from local law enforcement agencies across Tennessee
