VDOE Official: Districts should focus on academic needs of students during Spring SOL testing period
The head of Virginia’s education department is encouraging school districts to focus on collecting information to identify the academic needs of students during Standards of Learning testing this spring.
Superintendent of Public Instruction James Lane says this is the best strategy to help systems develop instructional and remedial programs for learning recovery after an unstable school year due to the pandemic. Lane also added that when testing results come in, districts should solely examine student needs, not accreditation or teacher evaluations.
Lane waived state accreditation for 2021-22, but the US Department of Education is still requiring states to administer reading, math, and science tests this spring.
