Virginia DOC Celebrates National Reentry Week For Inmates Being Released
The Virginia Department of Corrections offers 125 programs to offenders who are in incarcerated to help inmates return to work on a daily basis once released from prison. As part of April’s Second Chance Month, and National Reentry Week the Virginia Department of Corrections is celebrating the community collaborations with criminal justice stakeholders across Virginia this week, these stakeholders and the programs help ensure the needs of inmates, probationers and parolees are met. These services and programs are designed to help inmates as they’re released from state custody and support those individuals on probation and parole. Among the services provided include DMV identification cards, Virginia bonding letters, Medicaid enrollment, and registration on job seeking websites. Each program fall into one of three categories: academic, job training and cognitive issues. The staff skills used are gained through training, learning teams, and dialogue practices.
