Coalition Launches Second Round Of Funding For Reclaiming Coal Sites In Southwest Virginia
After a successful mini grant program in 2020, the Reclaiming Appalachia Coalition of Central and Southwest Virginia is set to fund a new round of innovative mine land reclamation and economic development projects in Virginia. The coalition is seeking all interested public and private entities or individuals in the Commonwealth with project ideas that will reclaim abandoned coal mine lands while supporting community based economic development. Applications are due May 21st Those chosen to participate will receive between 35 hundred dollars and twelve thousand dollars in start up funds as well as technical and planning assistance. The Reclaiming Appalachia Coalition is a collaboration of organizations focused on sustainable development in central Appalachia with the assistance of Appalachian Voices in Virginia.
