NEW: Atlanta healthcare firm acquires Bristol pharmaceutical manufacturing facility
An Atlanta, Georgia based healthcare firm has purchased the former Neopharma pharmaceutical manufacturing facility.
Jackson Healthcare acquired the 360,000 square foot building in Bristol, Tennessee on April 16, and puts it under American ownership for the first time in its 43-year history. The facility will now go under the name USAntibiotics, and work is ongoing to hire additional workers along with getting the facility reopened and production restarted.
43 workers were laid off when Neopharma closed last August. The Bristol site is designated by the federal government as a critical infrastructure facility and had that designation reaffirmed in February after Tennessee 1st District Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger sent a letter to the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency requesting the designation remain in place.
The manufacturer is authorized to produce Amoxicillin and Amoxicillin Clavulanate, which is prescribed to approximately 1 in 12 people in the US annually.
